Quote time strategy overview

To view and configure your restaurant's quote time strategy, you must have the 6.6 Restaurant Operations Setup permission. From Toast Web, choose Employees > Employee management > Jobs to open the Jobs page. Select the job title to edit the permissions. For more information about permissions, see POS access "mode" permissions.

Quote time is the amount of time it takes to prepare a guest's online order for takeout or delivery. The quote time is the prep time plus delivery time. The quote time is displayed on your restaurant's Toast Online Ordering website, the Local by Toast app, Orders Hub, and on the online ordering dashboard. For example, the quote time is displayed under Order now button on the Toast Online Ordering website and at the top of the Orders Hub screen. Quote times apply to orders placed via the Toast Online Ordering website, the Local by Toast app, or the Toast POS app. Quote times do not apply to orders from third-party online ordering channels.

The Quote time strategy section on the Takeout & delivery page in Toast Web offers four strategy options: SmartQuote, Manual, Kitchen capacity, and Order price. Once you choose a strategy, you configure takeout and delivery quote times for that strategy to indicate the amount of time it takes to complete an order.

  • SmartQuote: Toast automatically configures takeout and delivery quote times based on a variety of data inputs such as:

    • Order prep times for the last 60 minutes

    • Number of unfilled orders and items in your kitchen

    • Time and day the order was placed

    • Order source (in-store, Toast kiosk, Toast Online Ordering, Local by Toast app, Order with Google, or third-party online ordering channels)

    • Unique item-level prep times and the number of items in an order

    • Kitchen performance and capacity trends over the past three months

    Important

    The SmartQuote quote time strategy only applies to orders placed via the Toast Online Ordering website, Local by Toast app, and Order with Google. SmartQuote prep times cannot be provided for in-store and kiosk orders and orders placed via third-party online ordering channels, such as DoorDash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats.

  • Manual: Manually configure takeout and delivery quote times.

  • Kitchen capacity (formerly known as order caps): Manually configure takeout and delivery quote times based on order volume.

  • Order price: Add additional time to takeout and delivery quote times based on the total price of the order.

Note

If your restaurant does not use Toast Online Ordering, the Quote times section is displayed instead of the Quote time strategy section. In the Quote times section, you can specify takeout and delivery prep times that are used as manual quote times for the orders placed via Toast POS devices.
